Domestic violence affects more than just individuals — it impacts entire families, relationships, and a sense of safety. At Amor and Growth Therapy, we understand that healing from abuse takes time, care, and trust. 🌿 What Are PMADs?
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are a group of emotional and mental health challenges that can occur during pregnancy and after childbirth. They are far more common than many realize — affecting up to 1 in 5 new parents — and they are not your fault. PMADs can impact anyone, regardless of background, and they are both real and treatable with the right support.
PMADs can include:
Postpartum Depression – persistent sadness, hopelessness, or feeling disconnected from your baby.
Perinatal Anxiety – excessive worry, racing thoughts, or physical tension.
Postpartum OCD – distressing, unwanted thoughts or compulsive behaviors.
Postpartum PTSD – emotional distress following a traumatic birth experience.
Postpartum Bipolar Disorder – extreme mood changes between depression and high energy states.
You might feel overwhelmed, irritable, anxious, or numb — or just “not yourself.” These are signs that you deserve care, not shame.

🌿 ¿Qué son los PMADs?
Los Trastornos del Estado de Ánimo y de Ansiedad Perinatales (PMADs, por sus siglas en inglés) son un grupo de desafíos emocionales y de salud mental que pueden presentarse durante el embarazo y después del parto. Son mucho más comunes de lo que muchas personas creen — afectan hasta 1 de cada 5 padres recientes — y no son tu culpa. Los PMADs pueden afectar a cualquier persona, sin importar su origen, y son reales y tratables con el apoyo adecuado.
Los PMADs pueden incluir:
Depresión posparto – tristeza persistente, desesperanza o sensación de desconexión con tu bebé.
Ansiedad perinatal – preocupación excesiva, pensamientos acelerados o tensión física constante.
TOC posparto – pensamientos intrusivos y angustiantes o conductas compulsivas.
TEPT posparto – malestar emocional después de una experiencia de parto traumática.
Trastorno bipolar posparto – cambios extremos en el estado de ánimo entre depresión y períodos de mucha energía.

In the earliest years, babies communicate through their behavior—crying, fussing, reaching, turning away, or seeking closeness. Infant Mental Health Consultation is a gentle, relationship-centered service that helps caregivers understand what their baby might be trying to tell them and how to support healthy emotional development from the very beginning.
In this work, we focus on the connection between you and your baby. Together, we explore patterns, stressors, and moments of joy to better understand your child’s needs and your experience as a parent. Sessions are reflective, supportive, and grounded in attachment principles. The goal is not to “fix” the baby, but to help the relationship feel safer, calmer, and more connected.
This service may be helpful if you are noticing:

Feeding, sleep, or regulation challenges
Stress during pregnancy or postpartum

En los primeros años de vida, los bebés se comunican a través de su comportamiento: lloran, se inquietan, buscan cercanía, se alejan o extienden los brazos. La Consulta en Salud Mental Infantil es un servicio suave y centrado en la relación que ayuda a las personas cuidadoras a comprender lo que su bebé podría estar intentando comunicar y cómo apoyar un desarrollo emocional saludable desde el comienzo.
En este trabajo, nos enfocamos en la conexión entre tú y tu bebé. Juntos exploramos patrones, factores de estrés y momentos de alegría para comprender mejor las necesidades de tu hijo/a y tu experiencia como madre, padre o cuidador/a. Las sesiones son reflexivas, de apoyo y basadas en principios de apego. El objetivo no es “arreglar” al bebé, sino ayudar a que la relación se sienta más segura, tranquila y conectada.
